The forest calls

- An endlessly contaminated collaboration or Dancing is a form of forest knowledge.

Part of the Bildmuseet's ongoing exhibition, Eight degrees / Contemporary art about the forest. Created from waste wood, 2024 by the artists Malin Arnell & Åsa Elzén.

In a community north of Umeå, the artists Malin Arnell and Åsa Elzén came across a large pile of waste wood intended for the production of district heating. There the idea was born to take part of the pile out of production and place it in the forest; to take it from an industrial cycle focused on human needs back to the life cycle of the forest.

The idea was that the pile would land as a monumental installation in the exhibition hall at the Picture Museum, but the waste wood turned out to be too infested with black mold. Therefore, the pile will instead be returned to the forest already in May 2024, to a forest area in Vännforsbäck. There it can then be visited in the form of a sculpture, which decays over time and becomes a habitat for plants and animals. The site is within the Vindelälven-Juhttátahkka biosphere area.
