Erika Nordvall Falck, Jokkmokk – What if mittens could talk!

“When I was very young, I fell in love with traditional mittens. For just over five decades now, I have been knitting and collecting mittens from the craft tradition of northernmost Sweden. In these mittens, I see a multitude of stories about a rich cultural heritage that has rarely been given its due in the history of Swedish textiles. There are so many layers to the stories these mittens tell—about individual craftspeople, about people’s lives, connections, and journeys; about economic conditions, love, and care for loved ones; and about the symbolism in traditional dress, as well as social and geographic identity.”

The slideshow is 45–50 minutes long and centers on mittens and people. Afterward, there will be time for questions and discussion.
