Author Visit: Elin Berge - Trying to See
For a decade, she has returned to the river to photograph the people and life there. At the same time, her work has been marked by a growing conflict with what she herself loves: documentary photography.
The book is set along Vindelälven, but is really about something else—about photography and what happens when you try to see. In her talk, Elin Berge discusses her work on the book and the questions she has grappled with along the way: How do you approach another person with a camera? What does it mean to try to portray someone else? Can documentary photography be more than just a description of the world—a way to try to understand it, be a part of it, and change with it?
